If you have wandered into my journal randomly - welcome. :-) I'm a 21 year old guy attending the University of Mississippi seeking degrees in Studio Art and Biology (though, not really sure what I want to do with my life -- probably more school!) I am also fascinated with Computer Science. I've always felt a little different from most people -- very analytical and left-brained at times and highly imaginative and artsy at other times. I suppose this is well reflected in my majors. Even though I do not wish to pursue a field that is biologically oriented, I am amazed by the unity of life (all of you Dr. J students from Franklin should know what I'm talking about). Anyway, it turns out that everything in nature has a reason for existing and a purpose (though sometimes not completely functional!) :-) I'm a strong student... though I have serious issues with procrastination and stressing about pointless stuff.
I recently started studying art because I needed some form of creative outlet (and I knew I would continue to need one later in my life). I have artists in my family that are brilliant, as well as several rather gifted artist friends... all of whom will always be far better than me. Nevertheless, I very much enjoy working with my hands and bringing something from my brain into reality. I also build websites... for many years now. I'm fairly well versed in HTML, Javascript, Actionscript, Flash, Java, PHP, and mySQL (which is just fun to say -- I learned it all in my spare time -- or probably more accurately, I learned it all when I could have been doing school work.
Now I am a freelance website designer/developer doing most of my work for my grandmother's corporation. (She is a very cool woman!)
I am currently renting a house with my boyfriend John (of almost 3 years -- in February!) I care about him so very much, and he makes me feel very loved :-) So, despite our fairly frequent bickering (kidding) -- it's a great situation ;-) (oh yeah, I'm gay - not flaming, not creepy butch... I got away with being straight for a very long time.... ;) in case you were wondering) We also have another roommate, Rick, who is exceptionally cool for a straight man.
All of my friends here are vocal music majors (with a couple notable exceptions). So... I get a lot of musical theater and opera exposure :-)
Well, there's much more I could say -- but I shall end with my MOST IMPORTANT PAST-TIME! Destination ImagiNation -- formerly Odyssey of the Mind is the most awesome program ever... no, seriously :-) I've been a participant of this creative problem solving program for over a decade, and now (in addition to participating at the Global level) I have leadership judging ("appraisal") positions at state and regional tournaments (for two states!) and am a member of one state's Board of Directors representing the alumni. I am always looking for appraisers to help out -- it's a lot of fun... these elementary-high school kids can come up with some extremely clever and hilarious short skits with some very innovative technical items.
All right, that's all you get for now ;)
